Texas lawmakers have a plan to raise every Texas public school teacher annual salary by 5,000.  Most parents would think giving teachers a raise would benefit their children’s education but the editorial board and serves as the voice and opinion of The Dallas Morning News thinks otherwise. “Here’s why every Texas teacher shouldn’t get a 5,000 rise” We appreciate the good intentions behind the idea to raise income for teachers, but what are good intentions without “ a sound strategy for improving academic performance.” Benefiting teachers will not improve children's academic performance. The question is, “ If the state's going to spend $1.8 billion more a year on teacher salaries, why not invest it in merit-based programs that give districts the ability to encourage great teachers to work in struggling schools and help draw talented young people into the profession?” was one of the brilliant question  the editorial board and serves as the voice and opinion of The Dallas Morning News asked. Teachers shouldn’t get higher pay for just showing up. I think $1.8 billion dollars would be better used for better textbooks and labs in my opinion. “ The district's once-controversial Teacher Excellence Initiative has proved it can help keep the vast majority of our most effective teachers working in our schools and, on average, give them the biggest raises. Tying money to performance works. Meanwhile, most of the teachers the district is losing are those who've shown poor performance under the system.” Teacher that deserve raises should be the ones that actually teacher well with evidence of academic improvement the editorial board and serves as the voice and opinion of The Dallas Morning News also mentions how the education system is corrupt for example “DISD's system puts the best and brightest educators in front of the students who need them the most. “ From personal experience, I have witnessed this, which is I agree with the editorial board and serves as the voice and opinion of The Dallas Morning News. Perhaps we should take the time out of our day to fix the education system or reward the teachers that actually deserve it instead of trying to raise teachers income to let’s give our future youth the best education we can provide.
